Mancini: I Want Ronaldinho

Aftertwo years of speculation linking Ronaldinho with a move to AC Milan, coach of bitter city rivals Internazionale, Roberto Mancini, hassensationally revealed that he would love to have the Gaucho at hisclub...

The Milan Connection

Ronaldinho was first linkedwith Milan while still in his prime at Barca, with the Rossoneripresident, Silvio Berlusconi, determined to land the Brasiliansuperstar by any means necessary.

With Barcelona refusing tosell, speculation continued, even throughout troubled times that sawthe two time Ballon d'Or winner lose both fitness and form.

However, following the goal-scoring debut of wonder-kid Alexandre Pato andRonaldo's return from injury, which also yielded a brace in the samegame against Napoli, Berlusconi has now cooled his interest in theplayer.

An Inter-jection

Subsequently, after Inter signeda mammoth sponsorship deal with Nike - also Ronaldinho's sponsor - theywere rumoured to now have the finances to secure the signature of the2002 World Cup winner.

Speculation mounted about the possibilityof a deal but it was largely ignored, as many still expected Chelsea tobe his destination come the end of this season.

But with Intermanager Roberto Mancini publicly expressing interest in the player, things have now taken a dramatic turn, and the world will turn itsattention to a brand new transfer saga involving the number 10.

「Nobody believed me when I talked about Ronaldinho,」 said Mancini during a press conference.

「Idon't think it would be a problem to have him settle into the squad.Ronaldinho is a great player and, aside from his behaviour, theimportant thing is that a champion steps on to the field and makes thedifference. He almost always does that.」

England or Italy?

Theseominous words from the Inter coach will no doubt provoke a responsefrom Barcelona chief Joan Laporta, but with the Barca hero out of sortsand Inter president Massimo Moratti promising a star signing for theclub's centenary celebrations, they could prove worthy rivals toChelsea for the player's signature.

Inter's current dominance inSerie A may be the deciding factor in Ronaldinho's decision, as Chelseaare no longer the force they were two years ago, currently third placein the Premiership as Inter remain runaway leaders in Serie A.

Also,Inter present the opportunity to link up with fellow countrymen Maicon,Julio Cesar, Maxwell, Cesar and, should he return to the club, Adriano- whereas Alex and Juliano Belletti are the only Brasilians inChelsea's ranks.

The Italian lifestyle would probably bepreferential for Ronaldinho, as many receive a culture shock moving toEngland from the continent.

Brace yourselves, this could get interesting...
