"I have not met him, [since becoming England manager]" he declared to The Guardian. "Beckham is important for England and can still give a lot but I consider all [the players] on the same level. A manager has feelings but first and foremost he has to take decisions."
Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard have also been put forward as prospective candidates but Capello is refusing to name names.
Very Important
"The captaincy is a very important decision," said Capello
"There are many things I have to evaluate and I must come up with a choice that is right.
"A captain must be a leader, someone who carries the team, somebody that, in every moment, is important for the team.
"I am still deciding whether to pick a definitive captain or a provisional one. First, I need to know all the candidates well because it is such an important choice."

The ex-Milan, Madrid and Juventus boss has been around the country watching his first games in England during recent weeks, and after weighing up the positives and the negatives, now has a good idea of how he would like his side to line up.
"I have seen things which go beyond my expectations but also things that left me perplexed," he declared.
"Taking into account what I have seen so far and the England games I have watched, the team I want is in my head.
"But to have an idea of what I can achieve, first I need to know the players well - not only their characteristics with the ball but their tactical sense on and off the ball."
When further probed regarding star names Terry and Beckham, The Guardian reports that he acknowledged[/size]
