Interested, Again
Pro-Barcelona daily Sport contend that the Blaugrana are mulling over a possible move for Juventus midfielder Tiago Mendes (pictured).
Tiago arrived in Turin this summer from Lyon in a big-money move, but has made just a smattering of appearances so far as he falls further and further out of favour with coach Claudio Ranieri.
At the same time, the Barcelona bosses are growing increasingly concerned with the lack of midfield depth at Camp Nou, and the the ex-Chelsea player said to be an ideal solution to the problem.
Indeed, the blaugrana were allegedly close to moving for him this summer, before settling on Yaya Toure instead.
Midfield Numbers
Now, though, the Portuguese international could be set for a January switch in order to offer more depth to the midfield, which currently comprises of just Toure, Deco, Iniesta and Xavi.
The reports are also consistent with Rijkaard's suggestions that he could start using a 4-4-2 formation for away games, in which case he will definitely need reinforcements in the middle.
With Edmilson still injured, the lack of midfield options is a real worry.
What could be Tiago's major selling point is that because Juventus are not playing in European competitions this season, he is eligible for Champions League football.
Second Time Lucky
There are also suggestions that Frank Rijkaard is looking for a midfielder in January to do just what Edgar Davids did four years ago.
The Dutchman moved from Juventus on loan, and galvanized a Barcelona eleven that looked disjointed, and particularly soft in the middle of the pitch.
