MILAN, November 3 (Serie A) - AC Milan had to settle for a point on a frustrating night against Torino at the San Siro.

The Rossoneri squandered a host of chances with Alberto Gilardino the biggest culprit, closely followed by Andrea Pirlo, as they failed to find the back of the net and stretched their winless streak at home to six Serie A games this season.

Torino defended resolutely but showed little ambition going forward. They will, however, be delighted to have left with a point.

Gilardino had returned to form in recent games and scored twice against Sampdoria in midweek.

However, he was back to his profligate worst against Torino.

After 16 minutes, he had the whole goal to aim at from just seven yards out, but with two defenders closing in, he struck his shot straight at Matteo Sereni in the Torino goal.

Four minutes later, he had another exceptional chance to beat Sereni, but again he failed.

This time, he appeared to have his shirt tugged as he was preparing to shoot from the edge of the area, but he continued nonetheless and fired just wide of the post.

Sereni got the better of the Milan striker for the third time on the stroke of half-time, although play had already been held up with the offside flag raised.

Torino had managed to weather the storm for 45 minutes, while Milan's misfortune in front of their own fans all season was clearly beginning to make them, and the crowd, nervous.

As the second half wore on, the visitors grew in confidence while every passing minute made Milan panic just a bit more.

They kept trying, though, and Pirlo again came close to breaking the deadlock after just over an hour, firing just a foot wide of the post after Torino failed to clear a corner.

Carlo Ancelotti sent Filippo Inzaghi on for defender Serginho to give more weight to the attack, but he was equally wasteful in front of goal.

Having taken the ball past Sereni in the 78th minute, he hit a shot from a tight angle into the side-netting.

Despite Milan's domination, Alessandro Rosina and David Di Michele had chances at the other end to stun the hosts even further.

However, Dida maintained his concentration to keep them both out when they found a way into a shooting position.

The last chance fell to Massimo Ambrosini, but his wayward header from eight yards out was typical of Milan's night, and a season which is still struggling to take off.
